Mission Statement
The Baca County Historical Society was reestablished to preserve and share the stories that define our community. Our mission is to safeguard the rich heritage of Baca County through the collection, documentation, and preservation of historical records, photographs, oral histories, and artifacts. By honoring the past, we aim to inspire present and future generations to understand and appreciate the people, events, and traditions that shaped our county.

The printing of the 1983 History book is complete. Copies are available locally and online.

Book Project #1: Baca County History – Volume II

We want to make it easy for everyone to contribute to the creation of Baca County – Volume II. Each family is encouraged to provide their family story. We will include a free 700-word family history and up to two(2) photographs for inclusion. (submission for inclusion deadline is March 1, 2026)

Just like the original history book we are also making available the option for memorial pages and business sponsorships of the compilation. These will come Baca County History Book — Volume II (submission for inclusion deadline is March 1, 2026)

Instructions for submission can be download and are also provided below for your convenience.

You may submit your stories for Volume II in any of the following four ways:

  1. Email Submissions:
    Send to: baca@bacacountyhistory.com
    Include:
  • Your name, address, and phone
  • Your story (Word document preferred)
  • Our default assumption is submissions are for Baca History – Volume II so please indicate the purpose is for one of the other compilations
  • Photos (TIFF or JPEG, 300–600 dpi)
  • Optional: Signed permission form (download below) OR type in the email:
    “I _________ give permission for my submission to be used in publications by Lonesome Prairie Publications and/ or Baca County Historical Society.”
  1. Online Submission Form: Submit your Baca County History Volume II Stories and pictures Here. NOTE: To be able to upload here you will need a Gmail account. This also serves as a permission form for us to include your story in volume II. We are attempting to limit family stories to 700 words.

  • Approx. 700 words (flexible)
  • 12 pt Arial
  • Clear names, dates, and details appreciated

Photo Guidelines:

  • TIFF preferred / JPEG accepted
  • 300–600 dpi
  • Scan in color even for B&W images
  • Do not crop or edit—send originals
  • Provide names, dates, and locations if known

Our purpose is clear: to ensure that Baca County’s story is not only remembered, but continually told.

  • By helping with this project, contributing to and buying these books, You will:
    • Preserve historic Baca County materials through digitization, archival care, and public access initiatives.
    • Encourage community participation in collecting and sharing personal histories, photographs, and documents.
    • Partner with local institutions—including schools, libraries, and museums—to integrate Baca County history into education and community life.
    • Create public programs and exhibits that make history accessible, engaging, and relevant to all generations.
