A public meeting of the Colorado Groundwater Commission was held on March 13th, 2023, at the Minnick Building at the Baca County Fairgrounds. Positions for and against closing the Southern High Plains basin to high-capacity drilling were heard and surveys were distributed.
The Groundwater Commission public meeting, held at the Baca County Fairgrounds Minnick Building began at 6:30. The agenda was displayed via powerpoint and was available in print out. Tracy Kosloff, Deputy State Engineer, welcomed everyone and introduced some of her staff. Baca Sheriff Aaron Shiplett and two deputies were present. County Commissioners Rick Butler and Shiloh Freed were present. Kosloff stated that this was a public meeting to gather feedback from the community and to relay those thoughts to the CO groundwater commission as they consider a rule change for the Southern High Plains Groundwater Basin.
