The Digitization Is Done! A Milestone for the Baca County History Book

We’re excited to share that the digitization of the original Baca County History Book is now complete.

This has been a labor of love—one that involved careful disassembly, professional-grade scanning, and digital processing of all 749 pages. Thanks to everyone who encouraged, advised, and shared ideas along the way. Today, we’re able to preserve this rich archive and make it accessible for future generations.

Here are a couple sample pages from the original edition—honoring the incredible team that spent months compiling stories, editing family submissions, proofreading, and producing the original print run.

What’s Next:

  • We plan to print copies of the original book for those who want to own it again or for the first time.
  • We’re also working to make the book available online through the Baca County Historical Society/ Plainsman Herald.
  • For simplicity and cost efficiency, the BCHS website will be part of the Plainsman Herald site to reduce hosting overhead and ongoing maintenance.
  • While the digital content will be free to access, we’re still finalizing those access details.

Volume II Is Coming

We’re continuing to collect ideas and submissions for Volume II. Please keep them coming. We’d love to include updated family histories, untold stories, and anything that helps bring Baca County’s past into sharper focus. We will have a submission form for family stories soon.

Together, we’re preserving something truly special. More updates soon.
