Southeast Colorado Hospital District Announces New CEO, Management Agreement

The Southeast Colorado Hospital District Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rex Walk as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital district. This appointment comes as part of a new management agreement with Community Hospital Corporation (CHC), which was finalized in early December 2024.

The new management agreement with CHC, a trusted partner providing support services to the hospital district for the past five years, will further strengthen the hospital’s operations and support its strategic vision.

“We are excited to welcome Rex Walk to lead our hospital into the future,” said Ralph Bamber, Southeast Colorado Hospital District Chairman of the Board. “His extensive experience and proven leadership in rural healthcare make him the ideal candidate to guide our organization toward continued success.”

Walk brings over 25 years of experience in healthcare administration, having served in leadership roles at various community hospitals and health systems. He has a strong track record of improving patient satisfaction, driving financial performance, and fostering a positive organizational culture.

A native of Western Kansas, Rex and his wife Kay have three children, two of which are serving in the military and the youngest attending college.

“I am honored to join the Southeast Colorado Hospital District and grew up in a rural community and understand the importance that a strong, vibrant hospital has on the overall quality of life for the residents of the community and am looking forward to working alongside the dedicated team of professionals here,” said Walk. “Our focus will be to continue building upon the hospital’s strengths in ensuring that we continue to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the community while continually looking for opportunities to better serve the community with new and enhanced healthcare services.

Walk most recently served as Interim Chief Executive Officer for Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, a critical access hospital in Rawlins, Wyoming, where he increased top line revenue growth and reduced overall hospital expenses from previous years. Prior roles include CEO for Phillips County Health Systems, Phillipsburg, Kansas; and Regional VP of Operations / Interim Member Organization CEO for Great Plains Health Alliance, Wichita, Kansas. He also has valuable experience working for a large Group Purchasing Organization and leading its Supply Network activities for member hospitals of all sizes in the Southeastern United States.

Walk holds both a Masters and Bachelor’s Degree from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. He is a Certified Professional Manager, along with completing the requirements necessary to become a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is an active member in the organization, including also serving previously as the ACHE Regent for state of Kansas. In addition, Walk has served on and led various rural health related boards and has taught university and college level courses in a variety of subjects, including healthcare administration.

The Southeast Colorado Hospital District Board of Directors expresses its sincere gratitude to Jeff R. Egbert for his dedicated service as Interim CEO since May 2024.
