Statement from the Town of Springfield
Regarding the Springfield Police Officer’s Resignations.

The Chief of Police and the two other officers of the Springfield Police Department have each resigned. One officer’s resignation was effective on July 13, 2022, and the Chief and other officer’s resignations are effective as of 8:00AM Saturday, July 16, 2022. These were all the active officers for the town, leaving the Springfield Police Department without any P.O.S.T. certified police officers as of the effective date of the last resignation.

There were no allegations of wrongdoing by the Chief or any of the officers brought before the Springfield Board of Trustees. The two officers each resigned to take positions elsewhere. The Chief resigned citing “personal reasons”. The timing of the resignations is unfortunate but does not appear to have been motivated by any improper acts by the officers.

The Board of Trustees committed to immediately starting a job search for a new chief of police, police sergeant, and officers. The Baca County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Baca County Commissioners, agreed to provide temporary coverage for the Town of Springfield while it rebuilds its police force so that the Springfield residents will continue to have active law enforcement policing in the meantime.
