Marjorie Ann Harmon Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Koonce) Harmon was born in Chandler, Oklahoma on December 13, 1933.  She was 88 years old when she passed away peacefully at her home in Springfield, Colorado on February 2, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Robert Wesley and Eveleen Emma Koonce. She was married to Stephen Lyle Harmon on August 4, 1953.  They had a rich and long lasting 68 1/2 years marriage.

Marjorie attended grade school through high school in Chandler, OK. She then went to college at Friends University in Wichita, KS. There she met Steve and her education was put on hold for several years; but she never lost the desire to finish and get her degree.  She was finally able to finish her Bachelor of Science from Bethany Nazarene College in 1970 and then after several  years of teaching high school, running a preschool, working retail and as a Home Interior Design representative she finally was able to complete her Masters in Home Economics and Interior Design.

Marjorie was an avid seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, interior decorating and gardening. She loved flowers and tried her best to grow fruit trees, flowers and greenery at the various places she and Steve lived. She loved to quilt and was active in quilting clubs in her community up until the time of her passing. She also worked as a cook and counselor at Camp Quaker Haven for many years. This was the church camp that she grew up attending and continued to support throughout her life.  She was on the Camp Quaker Haven board for several years.  She was also active in her churches women’s missionary groups. Over the years Marjorie has donated many quilts to the Barclay College Annual Sale.  She has stipulated in her will that any remaining quilts at the time of her death be donated to this ministry. As a pastor’s wife she served behind the scenes meeting the needs of the church and communities as a mentor and counselor.  She used her God given talents of cooking, sewing, interior decorating and teaching as a ministry to and for the church throughout her entire lifetime.

Marjorie survived two bouts of breast cancer and numerous other health issues over her lifetime. Her favorite scripture verse was from Philippians 4:13, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (NIV).  She leaned on her faith to give her strength to keep going and was a hard worker all her life.  She fiercely loved her husband and family. Her goal was to make a quilt for each member of  her family.  We rest in the knowledge that she is sitting at the feet of her Savior with a pain free heavenly body rejoicing with those who went before her.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her and Steve’s parents; one sister, Boba Maxine; three brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and one nephew.  she is survived by her husband, Stephen Harmon; sons, David (Eilene) Harmon; and Carl (Brenda) Harmon all of Springfield, CO> Her daughter, Lori (Bob) Jackson of Yukon, IK; and sister, Melba Shaver of Midwest City, OK. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, nine nieces and five nephews.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating in Marjorie’s honor to Camp Quaker Haven for a new Arts and Crafts building.
